The movie is kind enough to protect Sherrie’s innocence and naivete, so unlike the stage Sherrie who is considerably less prudent.
The movie, while it has scenes of sexual, drunken and drugged debauchery, is surprisingly still a more sanitized version of the rowdier stage version, which really crisp, spicy language. The movie version, on the other hand, is all about Tom Cruise as rock icon, Stacee Jaxx, as every other character would all fly beneath his big shadow. The love story of Drew and Sherrie is clearly the central focus of the stage version. We could not help but compare this stage musical with the movie we had just watched. Long story short, if you're a die-hard rock'n'roll fan don't waste your money with this movie. I'm not even going to go into the annoying love story which just made it seem more like a Disney movie with bad acting. The only two good things about this movie were Tom Cruise and Russell Brand and only them made the film bearable. Tom Cruise did a good job in the ones he sang but that was about it. I was expecting to see much more of Tom Cruise but he isn't in the movie as much as you'd think, I was also tricked by the soundtrack songs, with the name of the movie being "Rock Of Ages" and the songs used in the soundtrack coming from bands like Guns'n'Roses, Bon Jovi, Joan Jet, Journey etc I was expecting actual ROCK music but they managed to ruin 90% of the songs in this movie. I went to see "Rock Of Ages" tonight and I couldn't be more disappointed, I had been waiting for this movie for a long time and had such high hopes for it that it all just came crushing down. But their romance and their musical aspirations are threatened by trying to stay true to their musical visions, changing musical tastes, and by Stacee himself.
As Drew and Sherrie's romance blossoms, other romances around them blossom as well. But Patricia is hiding a secret from her past as to the reason for her extreme fervor in getting rid of the Bourbon. His Christian fundamentalist wife Patricia Whitmore is leading the on the ground campaign in this area, she who is determined to shut down the Bourbon. Another problem for the Bourbon is that Mayor Mike Whitmore is taking a tough stance on what he sees as bad societal influences like rock music. Rumors are that Stacee is leaving Arsenal after their next gig to go solo, Rolling Stones reporter Constance Sack who wants to get the true story as to the reason.

Dennis and Lonny, who are having financial difficulties, are able to convince rock star Stacee Jaxx, the perpetually stoned front man for the band Arsenal who got his first break performing at the Bourbon, to perform for free at a benefit concert at the club. Despite Dennis Dupree, the Bourbon's owner/manager, not liking to hire people like Drew or Sherrie - someone who has musical aspirations - as service staff, Drew is able to convince Dennis and his assistant Lonny to hire Sherrie as a server, Drew and Sherrie who have a blossoming mutual attraction. The two meet as Drew helps Sherrie with a situation when she first arrives in town. She is just like Drew Boley was when he first arrived in Hollywood, he, now the Hollywood veteran, who works as a bar back at the Bourbon Club, known as the center of the rock scene in town and the place where many of the biggest acts in rock got their big break. Naive Sherrie Christian has just arrived in Hollywood from Tulsa looking to become a rock star.
